Wednesday, December 21st, 2016 | Thinking Routines

Today is about Metacognition.  We are all a part of this intellectual community and we encourage you to take that mentality out beyond our walls.  It translates well to the professional world.  The one thing that many of the professionals always come back and tell us after interacting with our students is their level of questioning and thinking.  Why let this falter at our own Exhibitions?  Engage your audience in thinking and as an audience member, engage in the intellectual community.

Guiding Questions

  • What qualities make a high quality presentation?
  • How can my exhibition best represent my process and learning?
  • How do I best communicate my learning?

DO NOW | Quick Jot (5)
Select a Thinking Routine that you would likely use for your EoL.
Whiparound to share responses

STEP INSIDE (10)
After sharing out responses, take this time to reflect and write responses to the following questions:

  • If you were an audience member, how would you respond to your own thinking routine?
  • How would you hope others would respond?
Turn and Talk with someone around you about this, share your thinking.  Answer the questions with them about their own thinking routine.

REPHRASE (15)
Write down questions that fit within your thinking routine, but are more specific. (Can be done in a large group based on choice of the Creation Advisor or even group).

Example: See / Think / Wonder

  • See
    • What do you see?
    • What colors do you see?
    • What details do you see that other people might miss?
  • Think
    • What do you think?
    • What do you think the colors mean?
    • What parts do you think are most important?
Share out with the group one specific question you added to your thinking routine.

Studio Time (35)
Setup your studio time goal. Your first priority is to setup the thinking routine of your presentation by adding in a large group of probing questions to have in your repertoire for Exhibitions.

Reflection/Ticket Out (10)
Last 10 minutes | Reflect on your studio time goal and share your thinking routine plan with your Creation advisor
